Nirvana (salvation) in the Buddhist faith marks the death of Buddha.
When the Buddha surpassed 80 years old, a friend Cunda invited him to dinner. Cunda prepared mushrooms, the Buddha's favorite food. But, unknowingly, he included some that were poisonous. Soon the Buddha realized he was dying.
The Buddha summoned his followers on his deathbed, determined to ease Cunda's anguish and guilt.
"In all my lifetime, two meals stand out supreme: one was the meal that I ate before I sat under the Bo tree, after which I received enlightenment," the Buddha began. "The other, tonight, at the home of my dear friend, Cunda, after which I shall receive Nirvana."
Upon saying this, the Buddha passed away.
